July birthdays

I felt VERY blessed and celebrated this year....I am thankful for the friends and family God has put in my life.
Jim and Diane hosted a wonderful dinner party in my honor...and it was all done by a personal chef.  The meal was over the top delicious.  It was great for everyone, even our hosts, to simply sit and be served.

Such great friends!
We then had a family gathering with all our kids and kidlets present....such fun!

Denay's birthday is just a few days after mine, so we celebrated together.

Thanks Paul and Shawna, our gracious hosts, for a lovely afternoon feast..

Quilt

This quilt was a birthday gift handmade by my dear SIL Marilyn.  She is an amazing quilter, and all of my kids and kidlets have had one given to them for their weddings and births.  So FINALLY I have one of my own....yippee!!
Thanks Marilyn....you are such a blessing to me!

Athlete of the Summer

We love our cruiser bikes.....we try to get out as much as possible in the summer.  Greater Vancouver has so many great biking trails....we were doing the Fort to Fort Trail in Fort Langley when I got a boo-boo.

So...my new biking rule:  Dismount often!  Especailly going downhill across narrow bridges that have sharp turns.  'nuff said.

Yes, I will ride again!

Be blessed, and hope you can catch the last of some sun before the rain begins!
Watching Cole's ball float away down the river.....oops
George brought an old chorus book....we sang our way through a pot of coffee
Isn't the world around us beautiful?  I love living in the lower mainland of BC
Stop and take the time to enjoy the world around you today.

Be blessed, dear friends!

A walk in the park....

We took advantage of a lovely afternoon and drove downtown to walk the sea wall.  We live in such a gorgeous part of Gods' world.....especially in the sunshine.
It is sometimes so easy to just stay home and do the usual...but it is SO worth it when we take the time and effort to enjoy the beauty around us.

Hope you can take some time to discover God's world around you.
Be blessed, my friends!

I LOVE VANCOUVER!

This post is late...but better late than never......

I can hardly begin to tell you what a thrill it was to have Vancouver host the Olympics. I was born at VGH and have lived in the Lower Mainland all of my life. My love for Vancouver has been magnified with every glimpse of my beloved city on the TV coverage.

We spent a few days downtown during the Olympics.....in my humble opinion, there are few places on earth more beautiful than Vancouver in the sunshine.

The air was electric with Olympic energy....the streets were crowded with happy people, families enjoying the sights and sounds, Canadian Patriots the likes of which I have never witnessed ever before.

I truly hope that the demonstration of Canadian pride will continue and grow within the hearts of all of us. I am so thankful to live a life of freedom in this "My home and native land", and I think that it's worth shouting about!

We met up with Jordan and Lindsey and Jordan took us thru the back way to see the Stanley Cup.....a thrill for every Hockey-lovin' Canadian!

Hope that spring has sprung all around you! Be blessed, my friends!

My roots are showing

Address: 2446 West 13th Avenue; Phone: Regent-8-2519
13th and Larch, Kitsilano just two blocks from Kits High in Vancouver
This is the house I was raised in...my Mom was watching Dragnet 1954 when she went into labor. No one was home, so our neighbour, Johnny Watson, (creator of Sundance Trampolines) had to drive us to Vancouver General Hospital.

I lived there for the first 13 years of my life. I still remember as a wee girl of 8 or 9 looking out from that top left window and looking over the downtown core and over to the North Shore mountains and praying for the city. God was very real to me as a child...A good reminder as I interact with the g-babies....God IS real and He does make Himself known to the very youngest of children.

Other things I remember:

Having my older brother Bruce take me to the movies up at the Ridge Theater on Saturday afternoons for $.25 (I seem to recall he was not too excited to have me tagging along)
Having to be home for supper by the 5 o-clock whistle (at the Labbatt's Brewery up on Arbutus and 12th)...that was the standard for every child in the neighborhood.
And laying in bed and listening for the 9 o-clock gun from Stanley Park...yes, we could actually hear it all that way....I guess there were fewer buildings in the way back then.
Walking the three blocks up the street to my Granny Pellitier's house (Grandad lived there too....Why is it that it's always G-ma's house and not G'pa's?) Any-who...Granny would call and say that the cinnamon buns were just out of the oven, and I would have to walk up and taste them first and then bring some home...oh, what a sad life I lived!
I remember the day my oldest brother Ken left to join the army...I was in my pj's at the side of the house, he picked me up and said he had to go....I was maybe three...I cried.
Walking the few blocks down to Broadway and Larch to the White Spot for fries and a Coke...for about $.25....sometimes I'd even get a milkshake....yum!
Swimming in our pool....we felt VERY plush to have an in-ground pool....it was an Esther Williams Pool...so 1950's! (For those of you who don't know...she made syncronized swimming into a movie sport).
The pear tree in the backyard.
The junk man that used to drive his horse and buggy down the back lane.
The sound of the milkman's truck pulling up in front of our house early in the mornings.
Mom's VERY latest in kitchen appliances - all pink!
The time Mom and I were home alone and we had a chimney fire...I had to run out of the house half naked (I was in the bath at the time...I was SO mortified!)
Playing with my best friends Cathy Burgess and Christine Press.
The Sunday dinners with all the family....roast beef and apple pie.
Walking to school in the rain.
The kind old couple, The McKlaren's who lived next door...he had a meticulously clean basement with shiny grey painted floors. Mrs. McKlaren would have me to tea.
A treasure trove of memories are wrapped up in those walls....I was able to walk through it at an open house this summer....it was so fun to see it through my adult eyes. It just sold for over $1,000,000...and to think my Dad was over the moon when he sold it for $34,000 back in 1967! Now that's what I call inflation!
I cherish the memories of my childhood....and hopefully I can make special memories for my kids and kidlets that they will cherish, too.
Be blessed, and thanks for stoppin' by

Derby Reach

We went for a picnic at Derby Reach and it was glorious.

It was spur of the moment, and not fancy....I brought chicken salad (canned chicken from Costco - not bad!) and a few cut veggies/condiments/cheese to add to some wraps, our friends brought a simple salad...drinks and ice and bingo - a picnic was born.

It reminded me how very simple it is to make a memory....sometimes just gettin' up and doin' it is all that is required.

Get up and make a memory.....enjoy what God has given you today.

Blessings to you and yours!

Another year older...

It was my birthday a couple of weeks ago....for some reason the number bugged me this year. Not a big deal...but 55 just sounds ALOT older than 54! But I have to remember that growing older is much better than the alternative of dying young....so with that in mind...we celebrate, thank God for His mercy and grace, and eat cake, of course.
We started the day by meeting my Mom and going to Tracycakes in White Rock for brunch. The time together was great....the reception and service at the restaurant was underwhelming. But we had a nice visit despite the lack of attention.

Funny, I just noticed you can see the two blondes in the mirror, chatting (and igoring their only customers) just like they did the whole time we were there. LOL

Bob and I then continued to LaConnor for a drive...we just poked around the town and shops. We then met some great friends for dinner in Bellingham. It was a terrific day, and it was just what we both needed.

We have had some difficult days this past month....we would covet your prayers for us and our family.

The birthday celebration continued later that week with a family dinner..of course, Trevor, Christy and Denay could not be there as it was during the week.

Shawna baked the cake for dessert....and OH MY GOSH! It was this FABULOUS recipe she got from Pioneer Woman's blog....it was AMAZING! Thanks, Hon.

As you can see Jacob and Auntie Lindsey have a 'special' relationship....they love each other...ALOT!

I had a terrific birthday week, with family and friends lovin' on me. I am truly thankful for all my friends and family that sent greetings from far and wide....you know who you are.
Be blessed and enjoy the sunshine.
The views were spectacular....I love where I live!
With everyone speculating on the condo market....hmmm....this one might be a good investment
God seems to show Himself more vividly in the springtime, don't you think?
The colours are amazing this year....we had a long winter.

Lord, open my eyes that I may always see your beauty around me.

Be blessed, dear ones, and look for God in the garden today.

A respite

I haven't been around these parts very much lately...actually I can't believe it has been so long since my last post.
I have been having to deal with stuff.... extended family stuff. I have been spending time alone; time with the Lord; time listening to praise music; time deep in thought....trying to find my own water level in a very big pool.
Ever have times like that?
It's kinda like knowing that a plane has crashed in someone else's living room, and you would like to try and help...but they are pretending the plane isn't there so you have to just stand back and watch the fire destroy...all the while the others are expecting you to pretend the plane isn't there, too.
Am I making any sense at all?

Any who....I have come through to the other side, and God is good. I am going to attempt to post several updates of life over the past few weeks. I have missed my time spent here, and hope to find more time to set a spell and write my thoughts....there is so much to be thankful for...I am often overwhelmed with God's goodness and blessings bestowed on me.

Be blessed this Easter weekend, my friends.

We're back!

We are back home now....thankful for a great time of R&R at my sister and BIL's home in Indio/Palm Springs.

The challenge?!

I must be nuts!
But Shawna challenged all fellow bloggers to post a picture of what we were doing right now....well...far be it from me to not take up a challenge!! So here I am waiting for the color to take on my hair....so my secret is out....and you thought it was my natural color?!

Check out my paint/hair color shirt...and my lack of make-up. Bob has always said (and he really meant it as a compliment) that he's never seen a woman that make-up does more for....I must agree! tee-hee

I would never go out of my house without make-up and hair done...but that would be facing strangers....on my blog I'm just with good friends so I know I will not be judged too harshly.

Have a great day, and don't take yourself too seriously

Mission accomplished

So here you have it...my natural hair color for another couple of weeks. I usually have to do my hair about every 19 or 20 days....argh! FYI - I use Faria by Loreal, and mix three or four colors together. (I pour just the color components into a large cup and stir it around, then pour it back into the bottles). This time I used 1 very dark auburn, 2 light brown and 1 very light brown. I now still have three more boxes of the exact combination. I could never find a color that was dark enough but with lighter highlights in it. So I played around until I figured it out.

I guess eventually I will have to stop the insanity.....but for now I am happily in denial.

Go color your world, my friends!

Yippee! Another year older!

My birthday started the day before, when Shawna, Lindsey and a few close friends surprised me with a movie night. We saw Kit Kitteridge (great movie!) and then we relaxed and laughed over coffee. I felt blessed before my day even dawned!

So on my day, we woke up to glorious sunshine....the day had to be spent outside. My hubby took me out for lunch at the Boathouse at White Rock. We enjoyed every moment of our time, and ended the time with a gelato cone and a walk along the boardwalk.

I came home to a surprise bouquet at my front door from Trevor and Christy...it's times like this I wish we lived closer.
Especially with wee McPeach soon to make her/his debute!

The rest of the clan gathered for a bbq supper. Fresh picked cherries from Jordan & Lindsey's tree, a fresh baked cake from the newest and best baker in town, and roasted marshmallows (sans moths) by the fire.
Another year older, but feeling blessed and thankful for God's grace and mercy that abounds in my life.

Enjoy the day, I know I will....I am off for a birthday dinner with my Mom, siblings and their spouses.

Picnic at Williams Park

A bucket of chicken, some veggies, cold drinks and a blanket - that would be a picnic. Add a couple of g-babies and it is a joyous event.

Back in the day, I took my kids to Williams Park for picnics with JH friends....our dear friend Doris organized a picnic day every week in the summer...we just had to show up and enjoy the day together. We still miss you, Doris!

After the picnic, we thought we would walk Fort Langley...BIG mistake!! It should be re-named Fort Mosquito!! Warning: do not go there unprotected....those guys have landing lights!!

From the rising of the sun...

To the going down of the same - the Lord's name is to be praised. This was the night of the gorgeous eclipse. We were able to see it clearly although, I wasn't able to get a good photo of it but I caught this sunset from my lonely sick-tower. Thankfully I am finally over all of my multi-sick, and I am mindful of God's provision of good health for our family.

::Running away::

Hello, dear friends and family....sorry I haven't been updating my blog. Since Valentine's Day Bob's Mom has been to emerg, then has been staying at our home for a few days...she's back home and feeling better...in between all that....I got a new set of sick....wretched sick...blah, blah, blah. So we are now jumping in the car (I'm feeling MUCH better) and going away to Seattle with the Six-pak and their husbands...which makes us the Dirty Dozen. Soooo looking forward to R&R with great friends. I will catch you up when I return.

Blessings to you....have a terrific weekend!
